How It All Began

In the thick of the pandemic, my unemployed and desperate self had a dream about a cookie. I quietly spent six months developing a recipe from scratch and then threw a wild idea out there to send Valentine’s grams, only cookies for Christmas. As the world opened up, I started leaving them everywhere I went – the nail salon, gym, at a friend’s door. Why?

JUST BECAUSE!!!

Fast forward to where we are now. This dream is my full-time reality. Yep. You read that right. I left my job to make dough. I have a new love for colors like light brown sugar and frequently ask my nail tech if she has shades of semi-sweet chocolate chip. Hmmm, what else can I tell you? Oh, cookies are half-baked by design so that you can warm them in your own oven to experience the cookies just like we do at JBC.

I’ll spare all of the goodness in between because I’ve been blessed with an abundance of it, but here we are now, an LLC, a dream that has become my reality.

This work is insanely humbling and rewarding. It gives me life. It sparks joy and makes celebrations sweeter. I thank God every day that he has called me to serve friends, family, and even complete strangers. And I pray that it continues to make you guys feel as full and seen and loved as it does me.

Devastation, grief, and community were the catalyst for these cookies. They’ve shown me that human connection and “just because” gestures have the capacity to do big things. To make someone’s day, heal a very broken heart, change a life. I and the business are living proof. So, while this gig grows and changes, the why behind it never will.

Our Roots

This little project started in my mom’s home kitchen. She lent me her KitchenAid and space. I’d come home from my full time job to find that Dad had made a Costco haul so that I could get right to baking. It was a family affair that had all hands on deck to test cookies, package, deliver, and support me as I hustled this thing.

In the beginning, there were no labels or logos. Business didn’t come from marketing, it was solely through word of mouth that sales were made. We unintentionally began to build a brand. I say we, because this work would be nothing without the community.

When I think back to our roots, I can’t help but consider all of you who believed in JBC from the very beginning.
